To inspire a healthy sense of competition, students of Jayapriya Public School have been allocated one of the four houses which symbolize the school’s values. Students develop a sense of belonging and a feeling of unity in being a part of a specific house.
The four houses are Ignis- Fire , Aqua – Water, Terra – Earth, Ventus - Air named after Elements of Nature. These elements should remind us to look around and appreciate the natural world and the wonder that is creation. We need to learn about and protect the ecology of our world, appreciate light and conserve the power that gives us artificial light, protect our air from pollutants and appreciate the value of water, remembering to avoid waste.
Each house is led by the House Mistress for a year. The Captain and Vice-captain guide their teams on all fronts and play a vital role in leading their team to victory in all events. Participating in various inter-house competitions not only gives the students a chance to display their talent but also helps them learn valuable lessons on team work and selfless service. Be it a debate, quiz or sports event, students give their best to win laurels and house points. Participation in various activities brings the house honour and gives the students a sense of pride.
Air is often seen as a universal power or pure substance. Its significance to human life can be seen in words such as aspire, inspire, perspire and spirit, all derived from the Latin word spirare. If no force compresses the air, it will expand indefinitely to fill the space available. Similarly the children of this club will expand indefinitely and exhibit their talents.
Fire is often seen as the source of light and warmth. We need light to see but also we need to be enlightened. Similarly we need to be warm to be comfortable but we need the warmth of love and affection to be happy and fulfilled. As the fire is the source of energy, it removes darkness and spreads light everywhere. It also signifies undying spirit and a killer instinct. We believe in fighting to the finish. The flame of energy spreads around enveloping all in it. Thus the students of fire house are not only talented, but also dynamic.
Water is essential to life. It quenches our thirst, enables us to be clean and is often a source of beauty. Water is a gift from nature to man, without which life is not possible. This essential element has various qualities such as transparency, clarity and relentlessness. Like water adopts the colour and shape of the container it is stored in, the children belonging to this house adapt themselves to any challenging situation.
